Another Golden day for son of Astern

Colt confirms Guineas form in G2 Callander-Presnell and gives sire another Group race boost

Golden Mile returned to Sydney in style on Saturday, 22 October to fix the spotlight firmly on his emerging sire Astern.

Champion jockey Hugh Bowman settled the G1 Caulfield Guineas winner midfield early in the G2 Callander-Presnell (1,600m) before challenging the leaders at the top of the Royal Randwick rise.

The three-year-old then proved too strong for the brave Communist to win by a short neck, with A Lot More Love a distant third.

Golden Mile, who sealed his spot at Caulfield beside Astern on the Darley stallion roster, has now won four races and been placed once for prize money of $2,596,500.

Out of the Australian mare Calaverite, who won two Stakes races during her brief nine-start career, Golden Mile has a two-year-old half-brother (Stanislaus) by Exceed And Excel (AUS) and a yearling half-brother by Microphone (AUS).

Astern won five races - including the 2016 Golden Rose at G1 level - and has already sired six Stakes winners, including brilliant Caulfield Guineas Prelude winner Aft Cabin and smart sprinter Seradess.

Astern stands at Darley’s Kelvinside property in the NSW Hunter Valley for a service fee of $11,000, GST inclusive.
