Pedigree notes

Native Trail is an undefeated Champion Two-Year-Old from the same Green Desert sireline. It has proven its suitability for Australian through sons like I Am Invincible and Kingman.

Native Trail has all the qualities to succeed at stud. His unbeaten juvenile season included victories in the G1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket and the G1 National Stakes at The Curragh, where he returned as a three-year-old to score in the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas. The previous winners of these three elite contests include several of the world’s leading sires.

Dubawi and Kingman both won the Irish 2000 Guineas.

Dubawi, Teofilo, Desert King, Danehill Dancer and El Prado all won the National S, while Frankel, Too Darn Hot, Teofilo, Grand Lodge, Zafonic, Try My Best and Nijinsky all won the Dewhurst.

G1 Stats

Native Trail’s sire has left 18 individual G1 winners from daughters of a wide range of broodmare sires.

  • 6/18 are out of Northern Dancer line mares. 3/18 are daughters of Nijinsky
  • 5/18 are out of Mr Prospector line mares including Native Trail himself.
  • 2/18 are out of daughters of Machiavellian.
  • 3/18 are out of Ahonoora line mares. 2/18 are daughters of Inchinor

Best Nicks

The nicking patterns for Native Trail’s sire Oasis Dream show most Stakes winners out of mares by Selkirk (hard to find in Australia), Pivotal (Nureyev line), Indian Ridge (Ahonoora line), Machiavellian, Sadler’s Wells and Rainbow Quest. The best percentages are with mares by Selkirk, Pivotal, Rainbow Quest, Montjeu, Indian Ridge, Zafonic, Shamardal, Barathea, Machiavellian, Daylami, In The Wings and Storm Cat.

Inbreeding/Linebreeding options

Native Trail’s pedigree features several of the most effective nicks and crosses in modern pedigrees.

These include:

  • The Danzig/Mr Prospector cross
  • The Mr Prospector/Nijinsky cross
  • The Blushing Groom/Nijinsky cross
  • The Lypard/Nijinsky cross

These crosses can all be reinforced by inbreeding them in parallel or reverse, or reintroducing an opposite-sex strain of one or both ancestors.

Strategy One

Native Trail is notably free of Sadler’s Wells, Fairy King and Storm Cat lines which cross well with several elements of his pedigree. Mares by Sadler’s Wells, High Chaparral, So You Think, Dundeel, Toronado, Giant’s Causeway, Shamardal or their sons would all be suitable choices. Mares carrying those names close up would also suit.

Strategy Two

Mares by Street Cry or Street Boss would replicate the best G1 cross for Native Trail’s sire Oasis Dream. Reinforcing the existing strain of Mr Prospector in Native Trail’s dam line is an added bonus.

Strategy Three

Send mares carrying strains of Ahonoora which this sireline nicks with particularly well. Stallions providing this ingredient include Churchill, Harry Angel, and Dark Angel who supplies Machiavellian as well.

Strategy Four

Mares from the Storm Bird and Storm Cat line would replicate the strong nick between Storm Bird and Nijinsky who are bred on similar lines.

This would include mares by Snitzel, Churchill, Foxwedge, Grunt, Menari, Shamardal, Puissance De Lune, Russian Revolution, Shamus Award,  Trapeze Artist, Wandjina and Zousain.

Strategy Five

Send mares that reinforce the best nicks for Native Trail’s sire Oasis Dream. In several cases, this will overlap with one of the four strategies indicated above, which is an added plus for mating.

Sirelines that are abundant in the Australian broodmare population and that provide these strains directly or via their sons and daughters include the Sadler’s Wells line, the Street Cry line, the Storm Cat line and the Nijinsky line.
