2017 fees announced for the Darley stallions in Australia

Astern and Frosted, the best sons of leading stallions Medaglia d’Oro and Tapit, to stand at $38,500

Fees have been announced for the 29 Darley stallions that will stand in New South Wales, Victoria and New Zealand for the 2017 breeding season.

Heading this year’s roster again are Medaglia d’Oro (pictured) and Exceed And Excel, both standing at a fee of $110,000 (inc. GST). Both stallions enjoyed outstanding results at the recent Inglis Easter Yearling Sale with Medaglia d’Oro achieving a record price of $2.4 million, while Exceed And Excel had multiple million-dollar lots.

Among the six new stallions for 2017 are Medaglia d’Oro’s highest-rated son, G1 Golden Rose winner Astern, plus the best-ever son of Champion American stallion Tapit, triple G1 winner Frosted Astern will stand at Kelvinside alongside his sire, while Frosted will stand at Northwood Park.

Territories ($22,000 inc. GST), a G1-winning son of Invincible Spirit from the family of Street Cry and Shamardal, is another new addition to the Kelvinside roster, as is Choisir’s supremely tough son The Last Lion ($13,200 inc. GST), winner of last year’s G1 Middle Park Stakes – Britain’s premier 1,200m test for juveniles.

Joining Frosted on the Northwood Park roster is Holler ($16,500 inc. GST), a star son of Commands who defeated his older rivals in the G1 Canterbury Stakes and G2 Australia Stakes as a three-year-old last season.

Sire of 12 G1 winners to date, Teofilo, who will stand at $44,000 (inc. GST), has had another sensational season lead by G1 Australian Cup hero Humidor and multiple G1 winner Palentino. Teofilo will once again stand alongside his G1 Doncaster-winning son Kermadec, ($22,000 inc. GST).

Joining the Haunui Farm roster in New Zealand this year is Champion European juvenile Belardo. Winner of the G1 Dewhurst Stakes as a two-year-old, Belardo went on to land the G1 Lockinge Stakes at four. He will stand alongside Iffraaj, who has enjoyed a truly outstanding season, with G1 New Zealand Derby winner Gingernuts and G1 ATC Derby winner Jon Snow taking his tally to eight individual G1 winners.

After covering high-class books of mares in their first seasons at stud, Contributer and Complacent will once again stand at as Darley stallions at Mapperley Stud in New Zealand.
