Taraayef scores strong but narrow win in Listed Poseidon Stakes

Listed victory keeps Lonhro among the Stakes-winning sires at Flemington

A well-judged ride and a determined performance by Taraayef secured victory for the daughter of Lonhro in the Listed Poseidon Stakes at Flemington on Saturday, 5 October.

Taraayef becomes her sire’s 87th Stakes winner, joining a list that grows more impressive with each season.

Jockey Jye McNeil had Taraayef in touch with the leaders throughout the 1,100m race, at the same time saving a supreme effort for the final 50m, overhauling the leader and runner-up Hawker Hurricane in the final few strides.

Taraayef is raced by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum’s Shadwell Stud who also raced her dam Sultah (Exceed And Excel)  who is a daughter of Picholine, the dam of the G1 Victoria Derby and G1 South Australian Derby winner Rebel Raider (Reset).

Lonhro is standing the current southern hemisphere breeding season at Kelvinside, NSW, at a fee of $77,000 including GST.
