Stakes-winning mares foal at Darley

As we head into September, more star matrons continue to foal

As we entered the first day of spring on September 1, it was fitting to see that the G1-winning and producing Danehill mare Camarena produced a brown filly by Champion sire Lonhro at Darley’s Woodlands property.

The winner of the G1 Queensland Derby during her classic season, Camarena is also the dam of G1 Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Camarilla, as well as the G1 VRC Derby runner-up Induna. A sister to the dam of Darley’s new recruit Sepoy, Camarena’s current two-year-old is a colt by More Than Ready named Superstition in the yard of Peter Snowden.

The next day saw the arrival of the second foal for the Stakes-winning Elusive Quality mare Bernicia. A half-sister to the former Hong Kong Champion galloper Vengeance of Rain and the G1 AJC Oaks winner Dizelle, all being out of the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Danelagh, Bernicia’s latest arrival was a brown colt by Lonhro, joining her current yearling filly by that very same sire.

Another colt born on September 2 was out of the G1 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Preserve, a Canny Lad half-sister to Darley stallion and Lonhro’s G1 Golden Rose winner Denman. By Medaglia d'Oro (pictured), the sire of seven G1 winners including the outstanding Rachel Alexandra, Plum Pretty, Warrior’s Reward and C S Silk, the colt is the second foal in a row by Medaglia d’Oro for the mare after foaling a filly the season prior.

Standing alongside each other at Kelvinside during the current season, further information on Lonhro ($110,000 (inc. GST)) and Medaglia d’Oro ($77,000 (inc.
