Brazen Beau's G1-winning son back with Black Type win at Ellerslie

On The Bubbles salutes for Te Akau Racing and Jamie Richards

Bombproof New Zealand three-year-old On The Bubbles (Brazen Beau) showed he’ll be a force in any race premier Matamata trainer Jamie Richards targets when he won the Listed Uncle Remus Stakes over 1,400m at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.

Having just his second run back from a spell since winning the G1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes at Awapuni back in April, the son of Brazen Beau and Australian mare More Bubbles fought off the previously unbeaten Pareanui Bay (Lonhro) to score by a neck. Marchand was a further 1.3 lengths away in third.

Beautifully ridden by Opie Bosson from fourth in the run with cover, On The Bubbles took his outstanding record to five wins and three placings from eight starts for prizemoney of NZ$760,485 in the orange and blue colours made famous by 14-time Champion mare Melody Belle (Commands) for David and Karyn Ellis' Te Akau Racing.

On The Bubbles was bred by Burnewang North and sold as a yearling at New Zealand Bloodstock's Karaka Yearling Sale.

Richards has some preparation planning to do, with On The Bubbles nominated for the G1 Telegraph Handicap (1,200m) at Trentham next month and the G1 NZ Derby (2,400m) at Ellerslie in March.

Brazen Beau, a dual G1 winner of the 2014 Coolmore Stud Stakes and the 2015 Newmarket Handicap at Flemington during his brilliant 12-start career, has already produced 15 Stakes winners in Australia and New Zealand.

Brazen Beau is represented by 12 yearlings at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale (click here to view), seven at New Zealand Bloodstock's Karaka Yearling Sale Book 1 (click here to view) and three at Inglis Classic (click here to view) with Inglis Premier and Inglis Easter catalogues yet to be released.
