Diameter becomes Brazen Beau’s 19th Group winner

Brazen Beau colt Diameter earned a Caulfield Guineas opportunity with a narrow victory in the G2 Stutt Stakes (1,600m) at Caulfield.

The Godolphin homebred was held up behind the leaders before James McDonald found an opening inside the final 100m. Diameter accelerated through the gap to defeat Too Darn Hot colt Somethings Burnin’ by 0.15 lengths, completing a quinella for trainer Chris Waller and the progeny of Darley stallions.

Diameter has now won three of his nine starts, including the Listed Fernhill Stakes (1,600m) at Randwick as a two-year-old. He also finished third in the G1 Champagne Stakes over the same course and distance.

Waller indicated the colt would now progress to the G1 Caulfield Guineas (1,600m) on Saturday, 10 October.

A victory would give Brazen Beau a fourth G1 winner and carry added significance for Waller, who trained the stallion to victories in the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes and G1 Newmarket Handicap.

Diameter is out of the Street Cry mare Circular, making him a half-brother to G1 Newmarket Handicap winner and Darley stallion Cylinder. Circular has also produced multiple Group winner Parisal, while the wider family includes Darley Champion Sire Lonhro.

Diameter becomes Brazen Beau’s 19th individual Group winner. The Northwood Park stallion has sired 32 Stakes winners and stands for $27,500 including GST.
