Three-year-old son of Exceed And Excel wins G2 weight-for-age contest

Standout beats older horses in the G2 Expressway Stakes at Randwick

Another three-year-old colt by Exceed And Excel, Standout, stamped himself as a serious contender ahead of the autumn carnival when flying home in the G2 Expressway Stakes under weight-for-age conditions on Saturday, 1 February.

Standout joins Microphone, Bivouac, and Exceedance as Group-winning colts from their sires' 2016 crop.

Trained by one of Sydney's leading trainers, Gerald Ryan, and bred and raced by George Altomonte of Corumbene Stud, Standout jumped with the field to sit midfield over the 1,200m contest. Jockey Tommy Berry settled two off the fence back in fifth and the pair cruised over the first 700m of the journey before peeling off at the 400m mark to straighten up and run to the judge. The colt displayed an irresistible turn of foot bursting clear at the 200m mark to lead Alizee (Sepoy) home by one and a half lengths in second.

Standout is out of the Snippets mare Bahia, the dam 2013 G1 Golden Slipper Stakes winner, Overreach.

In 2020 so far, Exceed And Excel has produced three million-dollar yearlings, with 18 youngsters catalogued for the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale in April.
