Strong start for Darley stallions at Inglis Easter Yearling Sale

Exceed And Excel's success highlighted by an $800,000 filly and a $700,000 colt on day one of the sale

Day one of the 2017 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, held at their Newmarket complex for the final year, proved to be a very successful session through the ring for the Darley stallions.

Leading sire Exceed And Excel finished the opening day of the sale with a very healthy average of $496,429 for his seven lots sold. His highest-priced yearling on the day was lot 113 from Kia Ora Stud, a filly out of Group-winning mare Dream Play who sold to James Harron Bloodstock Pty Ltd for $800,000. His success continued with lot 99 from Bhima Thoroughbred, a colt out of De Groove (herself a half-sister to Group winner Taikun) selling to ABC Bloodstock for $420,000.

Exceed And Excel’s first lot to go through the ring was lot 70, a colt from the Segenhoe Stud draft, who sold to Apollo Ng from Hong Kong for $625,000. Apollo Ng purchased a second Exceed And Excel colt, going to $700,000 to secure lot 147, a three-parts brother to G1 winner Wanted.

Exceed and Excel had a further two lots sell for over $350,000, including Highgrove Stud’s colt out of Stakes-placed mare Emotional Circus who sold to The Hong Kong Jockey Club for $420,000 and Kia Ora Stud’s filly out of Group-winning mare Decelerator going to Shadwell Stud for $350,000. Medaglia d’Oro also had a successful first day, highlighted by lot 28 from Willow Park Stud, a colt out of Alacer - herself a daughter of Group-winning mare Pravda who sold to Spendthrift Australia Pty Ltd for $350,000.

Lonhro’s only yearling offered on the day, a colt out of Stakes-winning Exceed And Excel mare Armed For Action from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft, sold to Sun Bloodstock Pty Ltd for $425,000.

There was also an impressive result for first-season sire Dawn Approach, with Darren Weir and John Foote going to $360,000 to secure lot 5 from Mill Park Stud, a colt out of Stakes-winning Exceed And Excel mare Very Discreet.
