Street Boss colt attracts attention of Hong Kong, Darley stallions outperform Day 1 market

Ricky Yiu goes to $375,000 like a Boss on Day 1 of Inglis Classic

Hong Kong trainer Ricky Yiu hopes a Street Boss colt - Lot 199 - he bought for a Day 1 top price of $375,000 is his next Voyage Bubble, the HK Derby winner Yiu also sourced from the Classic Yearling Sale.

“This colt, I saw his video back home and thought ‘gee, he’s a lovely athletic colt’ and when I saw him in the flesh, I liked him even more," Yiu told Inglis post-sale.

"He’s very correct, walks well and I believe in time he will do very well in Hong Kong as a sprinter/miler."

Sunday's top-priced result of $375,000 on Day 1 at Inglis' Riverside Stables was a huge coup for vendor Bhima Thoroughbreds on behalf of his breeder GSA Thoroughbreds who raced this colt's dam, Dance Card (Exceed And Excel).

Interstingly, the Darley stallions' Day 1 performance at Inglis Classic exceeded the market on all three metrics:

  • Darley's average of $109,808 versus a market average of $94,929.
  • Darley's median of $87,500 versus a market median of $80,000.
  • Darley's clearance of 83.9% versus a market clearance of 82.8%

Pleasingly, Too Darn Hot and Bivouac both outperformed the Day 1 average.

Other Day 1 highlights include:

  • Lot 2: Too Darn Hot x Valencay filly for $220,000.
  • Lot 22: Too Darn Hot x Wickedness colt for $180,000.
