Seventh Stakes winner for Reset

Well Rounded too good in the G2 Matriarch Stakes at Flemington

After finishing a length second on Melbourne Cup day behind Carnegie mare Influential Miss, the Lee Freedman-trained Well Rounded held off all challengers to record a two length victory in the G2 Matriarch Stakes, defeating last year’s winner Purple (Commands).

The four-year-old Reset mare settled about two lengths off the leader Purple, and as the field turned for home the majority fanned wide. Jockey Ben Melham kept his mare on the inside and with a massive 6kg’s less than the runner up, he was able to take all the favours to score a dominant win.

Bred by Mr DPR Esplin, D & M Esplin Pty Ltd, Well Rounded is out of the Rainbow Quest mare Armilla, a half-sister to dual G1 winner Campanologist and comes from the extremely impressive international family of G1 winners Singspiel, Rahy, Glorious Song, Mezzo Soprano and Danon Chantilly.

The seventh Stakes winner for her unbeaten dual G1-winning sire Reset, Well Rounded is the third individual Stakes winner this season, after the G2 victories of Avienus and Set For Fame.

Reset is standing the current breeding season at Darley Northwood Park at a fee of $22,000 including GST.

Earlier in the day, recent Stakes-winning Lonhro three-year-old Territory finished third in the Listed Hilton Hotel Stakes at Flemington.
