Ranier breaks through for well-deserved Stakes win

Son of Lonhro maintains his sires outstanding record in the Gothic Stakes

A determined victory by Ranier in Saturday’s Listed Gothic Stakes at Caulfield ended a frustrating sequence of placings and opened the door to better races for the Lonhro colt.

Ranier had been placed at his only five starts, including a luckless second placing at his previous outing at Flemington.

But given a trouble-free run by Hugh Bowman, he showed his class to win by a long head from Yulong January.

Ranier also become the 840th winner and the 77th Stakes winner for Lonhro who maintains an enviable record of 72 per cent winners to runners.

Trainer James Cumming is now considering a start in either the G3 Carbine Club Stakes or the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington next month for Ranier.

Lonhro, the champion Australian horse of his era, stands at Kelvinside, NSW, at a fee of A$55,000, including GST.
