Promising Lonhro colt lands maiden Stakes win

Peacock holds on for a gutsy victory

Following the devastating news of the passing of Champion sire Octagonal, three-year-old Lonhro colt Peacock demonstrated that these bloodlines remain a dominant force in Australian racing when claiming his maiden Black Type victory in the Listed Gothic Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield on Saturday October 15.

The three-year-old colt had a smooth ride under jockey Dwayne Dunn before a gap opened up and the duo elected to skirt up an inside alley. Peacock was challenged in the closing stages of the race by a late swooper but proved defiant to claim a narrow victory.

Peacock is a Darley homebred out of the Commands mare Iridescente, who is a half-sister to Hong Kong’s Champion Sprinter of 2007 Genius And Evil, and dual G1 winner Wylie Hall. This is also the family of the astonishing seven time G1 winner Grand Armee.

Champion three-year-old and now Champion sire Lonhro has eight individual G1 winners to his name, including his sire son Denman who is a winner of the Golden Rose Stakes.

Lonhro is standing the current breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 (inc. GST) alongside his son Denman who stands at $11,000 (inc. GST).
