Papi Bello draws off in the stretch to break maiden by seven lengths at Gulfstream Park

Two-year-old colt by Astern wins under hands and heels ride from Sutherland

Papi Bello took command on the far turn and was never threatened on his way to breaking his maiden by an impressive seven lengths at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, 13 November.

The two-year-old Astern colt, who was making just his second career start, stalked leader My Man Vito from second through the opening half-mile, took the lead on the far turn, and drew off through the stretch to win under a hand-ride from jockey Chantal Sutherland.

Papi Bello was bred in Kentucky by Susan Moulton and is out of the winning Scat Daddy mare, Run Like the Boss. Papi Bello hails from the female family of Champion and G1 winner Santona, and G3 Pennsylvania Derby winner, Grand Hombre.

From his first North American crop, Astern is represented by Sail By, winner of the G2 Miss Grillo Stakes and winners Mainstay (G3-placed), Tom’s Beauty, Grael, Brandon’smylawyer, She’s a Mia and The Arcadian Way.
