Outstanding performance sees Hauraki claim maiden G1

Son of Reset stuns rivals in Epsom Handicap

Hauraki, a son of Reset, made a spectacular statement when flashing home to take out the Group 1 Epsom Handicap over 1600m at Randwick on 1 October.

The five-year-old gelding settled last throughout the running under jockey James McDonald and the duo were only able to find clear running with 300 metres remaining. Hauraki demonstrated an astonishing turn of foot and unrivalled acceleration to claim his maiden G1 victory in the final stride of the race from Dibayani (Shamardal).

Hauraki was bred by Darley and despite five placings at the elite level this maiden G1 win sees him join half-brother Kidnapped, a winner of the G1 South Australian Derby, as a top performer for Dehere mare Youthful Presence. The mare has had six winners from as many runners and is currently awaiting the arrival of a son or daughter by Lonhro.

Hauraki becomes Reset’s fifth individual G1 winner, joining the likes of Caulfield Cup winner Fawkner, Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker, as well as Rebel Raider and Set Square.

Reset is standing the current breeding season at Northwood Park at a fee of $16,500 (inc. GST).
