Nootka Sound splashes to victory in the Soaring Softly Stakes

Daughter of Lonhro much the best in wire-to-wire romp

Nootka Sound notched her first Stakes victory when she went gate-to-wire to take the Soaring Softly Stakes at Belmont Park 19 May.

Originally carded as a G3 on the turf, the contest was moved to the main track after a day of heavy rain. The three-year-old daughter of Lonhro didn’t seem fazed by the change in surface, bouncing out of the gate on top and never looking back as she cruised to a three-length win.

Bred in Kentucky by KatieRich Farms, Nootka Sound is out of Miss Red Delicious, a Stakes-winning daughter of Empire Maker. Nootka Sound is a half-sister to Stakes winner Golden Delicious, and hails from the family of G2-placed Miss Mary Apples.

Nootka Sound is from the third and final crop of Lonhro’s shuttle stints to Kentucky, which has already resulted in 17 Stakes performers including last season's G1 juvenile Cardsharp and 2018 Belmont Stakes hopeful, Gronkowski.
