New Stakes winner for Lonhro

Celts lands the Governor Macquarie Cup to become latest Black type winner for her talented sire

Former Horse of the Year and boom sire Lonhro appears to have another strong three-year-old rising through the ranks, following Celts' game victory in the Governor Macquarie Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

The Peter Snowden-trained filly was having just her fifth start when apprentice rider Tommy Berry took advantage of barrier one to enjoy a good run in transit before finishing swiftly along the rail to beat Buffering by a long neck.

Celts, a winner at her last start at Warwick Farm, is out of the Woodlands-bred mare Dinna Fash (Canny Lad), a half-sister to Stakes winner Appoint from the family of G1 winner Warned. The filly also finished third to Willow Creek and More Strawberries in the G2 Magic Night Stakes in her last preparation.

Dinna Fash has already foaled this spring producing a colt by hot young Darley sire Dubawi, who was recently responsible for G1 AJC Flight Stakes winner Secret Admirer.

Lonhro, whose progeny have now won five Stakes races this season, has now sired an impressive 28 individual winners. He stands at Kelvinside Stud in the Hunter Valley for $88,000 (Inc GST) alongside his G1-winning son Denman, who stands at $38,500 (Inc GST).
