Mental is dominant

Easy stakes win at Eagle Farm

Exciting three-year-old Lonhro gelding Mental added to his burgeoning reputation with a dominant win in the Listed Daybreak Lover Quality over 1600m at Doomben on June 9.

Trained by Peter Snowden, Mental settled midfield before ambling up to join the leaders into the straight, coming away under hands and heels to score comfortably and register his second Stakes success following his devastating win in the G3 Fred Best Quality on May 19.

Mental is now the winner of six of his nine starts. The Darley-homebred is out of the Night Shift mare Intrigues, a daughter of the blue hen producer Shaybisc. Shaybisc was the dam of three individual Stakes winners, including Sashed, who produced the G1 winner Freemason and is also the grand-dam of Lonhro's Listed winning daughter Serenissima.

Mental is bred on the same Lonhro / Night Shift cross as G1 winner Beaded, G2 winner Parables, G3 winner Trim and Listed winner Dysphonia.

Mental is one of 33 Stakes winners for Australia's reigning Champion sire including this season's undefeated two-year-old Triple Crown winner Pierro, with Mental one of 17 Group winners for the Champion racehorse and sire who will stand the forthcoming season at Darley Kelvinside for $110,000 (inc. GST) alongside his G1-winning sons Denman ($33,000 (inc. GST)) and Benfica ($11,000 (inc. GST)).
