Lonhro sires eighth career G1 winner

The Conglomerate claims South Africa's most famous racing contest

The Conglomerate became Lonhro’s eighth individual G1 winner when he stormed home to claim South Africa’s prestigious Durban July over 2200m at Greyville, 2 July.

A previous winner at G2 and G3 level, the son of Lonhro jumped from a wide gate and enjoyed a nice run off the speed to travel comfortably for jockey Piere Strydom. The classy colt burst clear upon turning for home and claimed a determined half-length victory from late challengers Marinaresco and Mac De Lago.

A $160,000 purchase at the 2013 Inglis Premier Yearling sale, The Conglomerate was bred by Dean Fleming and is out of Canny Lad mare Republic Lass, a dual G1 winner of the Australian Oaks and the Ravnet Stakes. Republic Lass is back in foal to Lonhro this season.

Champion racehorse and sire Lonhro has sired over 60 career Stakes winners, including G1-winners and fellow Darley stallions Exosphere and Denman, as well as Champion two-year-old Pierro and G1 winning juvenile Benfica.

Lonhro will stand the coming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 inc. GST alongside Exosphere who stands his first season at a fee of $27,500 inc. GST, while Denman is standing at $11,000 inc. GST.
