Holding Gold shines in Colonel Power Overnight Stakes

Son of Lonhro rallies late to win 2018 debut

Holding Gold made his 2018 debut a winning one when he rallied from well off the pace to win the Colonel Power Overnight Stakes at Fair Grounds by a half-length.

Racing toward the rear of the field early, the Lonhro gelding began his rally on the far turn, making up ground on the leaders while racing wide. As the field entered the stretch, Holding Gold continued to close, eventually reeling in the leaders nearing the wire to post the victory.

Bred in Florida by Live Oak Stud, Holding Gold is out of G1 Gazelle Stakes winner and G1 Kentucky Oaks runner-up In the Gold (Golden Missile).

Lonhro is the sire of 72 stakes winners and has an outstanding winners-to-runners ratio of better than 70 percent.
