Holding Gold rallies to win the G2 Shakertown Stakes

Son of Lonhro earns his first Graded Stakes score in his 2017 debut

Holding Gold split horses in the stretch and then reeled in Green Mask near the wire to win the G2 Shakertown Stakes by a neck at Keeneland Race Course April 8.

Ridden patiently by jockey Joel Rosario, the four-year-old son of Lonhro was settled in midfield through the early stages of the five-and-a-half-furlong turf sprint. As the field entered the stretch, Holding Gold began to close in on the leaders as he sliced his way between horses. Once in the clear, the Mark Casse-trained colt wore down Green Mask to earn his first Graded Stakes win.

Bred in Florida by Live Oak Stud, Holding Gold is out of G1 Gazelle Stakes winner and G1 Kentucky Oaks runner-up In the Gold (Golden Missile).

Champion three-year-old and now champion sire, Lonhro has eight individual G1 winners to his name, including his sire son Denman who is a winner of the G1 Golden Rose Stakes.
