Medaglia d’Oro yearling sells well at Sydney Easter Sale

Exceed And Excel, Shooting To Win also popular on day one

Medaglia d’Oro has led the way for Darley stallions on Day One of the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale with his colt from Stakes-winning mare A Time For Julia selling for A$750,000 as Lot 2 (footage below).

On a day when seven-figure sales became almost routine, the colt set the early tone of the sale.

The second yearling to enter the sale-ring, he is the first foal of his dam whose four wins included the G3 Wenona Girl Handicap in Sydney and the G3 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes in Melbourne.

A Time For Julia is a daughter of Redoute’s Choice and a half-sister to a selection of Stakes winners including the champion South African sprinter Laisserfaire, Time Thief and Foreplay.

The colt offered by Fairway Thoroughbreds was purchased by bloodstock agent James Harron.

The stock of Exceed And Excel again had the usual strong band of admirers with his colt from the American Stakes winner Dream Play selling for A$400,000 as Lot 104 (footage below).

The colt is a half-brother to G2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Zululand and is from the family of G1 Hollywood Starlet Stakes and G2 Keeneland Beaumont Stakes winner Diplomat Lady.

He went to the bid of bloodstock agent James Bester in partnership with Aquis Farm and Gelagotis Racing who two days earlier provided the G1 Australian Derby winner Levendi.
