Lot 297: Brazen Beau x Pretty Penny filly

Book One of the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale concluded on Wednesday, 11 April with Brazen Beau and Exceed And Excel enjoying another successful sale.

The first yearlings by Champion sprinter Brazen Beau have proved popular with buyers so far and he finished as leading first-season sire (three or more yearlings sold), with an average of $352,000.

His top price was $700,000, given by McEvoy Mitchell Racing for a cracking filly out of the Group-placed Encosta de Lago mare Pretty Penny (vision below) offered as Lot 425, already dam of three Black Type winners including G2 winner and multiple G1-placed Sertorius.

Lot 425: Brazen Beau x Veuvelicious colt

Godolphin purchased his highest-priced colt when going to $400,000 to secure Amarina Farm’s son of Stakes-winning juvenile Veuvelicious, who hails from the family of the great racemare Go For Wand.

There was also success for Darley flagbearer Exceed And Excel, who saw 15 of his yearlings find new homes at an average of $351,000.

Lot 151: Exceed And Excel x Girl Hussler colt

Exceed And Excel’s highest-priced yearling will now head to Hong Kong, having been bought from Segenhoe Stud for $800,000. The handsome bay is out of Stakes winner Girl Hussler, making him a half-brother to last season’s G1 JJ Atkins Stakes third and G3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic winner Taking Aim. The mare also has a proven record with Exceed And Excel, with her two-year-old daughter by him, Witherspoon, finishing third in this season’s BJ McLachlan Stakes.

Later in the sale, John Foote went to $750,000 to secure his colt out of multiple G2 winner Thump, offered for sale by Cressfield.

Another colt by Exceed And Excel to break the half-million dollar barrier was Lot 187, out of Kidman – dam of Champion sprinter in Singapore, Zac Spirit. He was bought by A Ng for $550,000.

Brazen Beau stands at Northwood Park at a fee of $38,500, while Exceed And Excel stands at Kelvinside at a fee of $82,500, both including GST.
