Exceedingly impressive season continues

Kulgrinda becomes the latest Stakes-winner for her sire Exceed And Excel

Exceed And Excel has been enjoying a benchmark season with his juveniles this season, but on July 30 it was an impressive three-year-old filly flying the flag for her sire. At just her fifth start, Kulgrinda raced like a seasoned campaigner settling mid-field before drawing away upon entering the straight to win the Reliance Stakes over 1050m at Morphettville, comfortably by a length-and-a-half.

Kulgrinda (ex River Crossing) was bred by David Moodie and gave Exceed and Excel his 117th winner and eighth-individual Stakes-winner for the season. River Crossing, a half-sister to G1 winner River Dove, is booked to visit Exceed And Excel again this season.

Led by the dual G1-winning chestnut colt Helmet, no other sire has recorded more two-year-old Stakes wins this season than Exceed And Excel. In fact, since January 2008, no stallion globally has achieved more juvenile Stakes winners, juvenile Stakes horses or juvenile winners, than Exceed And Excel. With 167 two-year-old winners over that period, it is a remarkable to note that his nearest rival is Invincible Spirit, some 41 winners astern.

Standing the forthcoming season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $66,000 (inc GST), Exceed And Excel's current book of yearlings and weanlings includes the progeny of G1-winning mares Champagne, Miss Andretti, Mnemosyne, Virage de Fortune and Rinky Dink.
