Exceed Excels at Easter Sale

Darley stallions prove popular during the second day of the Inglis Easter yearling sale

Exceed And Excel (pictured) was one of several Darley stallions who enjoyed a succesful second session of the Inglis Easter Sale, with two yearlings by the Champion first and second-season sire selling for a highly-respectable $350,000.

Scone-based trainer Paul Messara was the first to register the figure with lot 308, a bay colt from the draft of Southern Cross Breeders knocked down to him. From the family of the G1 winners Slavonic and Bedouin, the colt is the third foal of the Bite The Bullet mare Bella Reina.

Offered by Makybe, lot 354 was knocked down to Darley Australia late during the second session. A full-sister to Exceed And Excel's first Stakes winner Exceedingly Good, the filly is also a half-sister to More Than Ready Stakes winner Common Interest.

Leading third-season sire Lonhro has recorded a solid average of $165,000 from four yearlings to sell to date. Leading the way for the 11-time G1-winning stallion was lot 306, a bay filly from the draft of Guntawang Stud. Out of the G2-winning Belong To Me mare Before To Long, the filly was knocked down to the New Zealand-based Michael Wallace Bloodstock for $240,000.

Another Lonhro filly to impress the keen judges was lot 330. Out of the Canny Lad mare Cannarelle, the filly is a half-sister to G3 winner I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) and is from the family of this season's record-breaking G2 winner O'Lonhro (Lonhro). She was eventually knocked down to John Hawkes racing for $230,000, the stable knows all too well of the family, having trained O'Lonhro.

Darley's first-season sire Nadeem continued his positive results from day one, averaging $89,167 for his six lots sold. Topping his draft was lot 265, a colt from the Irish-bred Soviet Star mare Zaitoona. Presented by Milburn Creek Thoroughbreds, the colt was purchased by Mr M. Templeton for $140,000.

Another Nadeem yearling that proved popular was lot 218, a filly out of the G1 Blue Diamond winner True Jewels. Purchased by Paul Moroney for $130,000, the filly is a half-sister to Stakes winner Villain (Carnegie), from the family of Exceed And Excel Stakes winner Noesis.

With just two yearlings catalogued on Wednesday, Commands' results were nonetheless impressive, with the top price of $220,000 going the way of lot 287. Purchased by Kieran Moore Bloodstock, the filly is from the G1-winning Canny Lad mare Ancient Song.

Selling concludes on Wednesday.
