Exceed And Excel is king of the kids

Juvenile double keeps Exceed And Excel on top of the two-year-old table

Dominating the two-year-old sires' table once again this season, Danehill’s G1-winning son Exceed And Excel is well on track to break his own record for the number of juvenile winners sired in a single Australian racing season. Sitting at 16 with approximately six weeks of the current racing season remaining, Exceed And Excel is three individual winners behind his 2008/09 racing season haul of 19.

Exceed And Excel kicked off a juvenile double on June 18 headed by the well-bred Extraceed at Rosehill. Trained by Gerald Ryan, the colt was making his debut and could not have been more impressive, scoring by a nose from the multiple-winning Star Mystery and Stakes-performed Queenian. Out of the Bellotto mare Extra Bubbly, this colt is a half-brother to the Listed-winning, G1-performers Johan’s Toy and Extra Zero, as well as the G3 winner Operetta Lass.

At Ipswich 45 minutes later, the Gillian Heinrich-trained Internal Revenue recorded his second win from eight starts, scoring by a quarter-of-a-length over 1100m. Stakes-placed at his third start, the colt is out of the Honour And Glory mare Group Certificate.

Having sired 64 individual two-year-old winners in the last four racing seasons, more than any other sire over the same period, Exceed And Excel is also having one his best season with Stakes winners. Already having produced four individual winners of six Stakes races highlighted by the dual G1-winning chestnut colt Helmet, Exceed And Excel’s dominance over the two-year-old ranks has never seen him finish further back than second on the number of individual winners.

Enjoy a stellar time in Europe at present also, Exceed And Excel has been represented by G2 winner Best Terms, as well as the Listed-winning duo of Margot Did and Passaggio all in the past eight days.

Standing the forthcoming season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $66,000 (inc GST), Exceed And Excel’s current book of yearlings and weanlings includes the progeny of G1-winning mares Allow, Carry On Cutie, Champagne, Ellicorsam, Grand Archway, Hasna, Hill Of Grace, Lashed, Lovelorn, Miss Andretti, Mnemosyne, One Under, Recurring, Rose Archway, Ruffles, Shame, Upsetthym, Virage de Fortune, Camarilla, Preserve, Rinky Dink and River Dove.
