Three-year-old filly Divorces, from the first crop of Darley stallion Domesday, broke her maiden in tremendous style on September 18 with an impressive win in the G3 Thousand Guineas Prelude at Caulfield.
Settled three wide in the early stages, Divorces had to come right around the field in order to get her run but powered down the home straight to win the 1400m-contest by a length.
Although this was her first victory, the Peter Snowden-trained filly is no stranger to performing at Group level, having taken third in last season’s G1 Champagne Stakes behind Commands colt Skilled, who had finished third in the G3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude the race prior. Earlier this month, Divorces recorded a second in the G2 Sharp Furious Stakes.
Her trainer indicated after the race that she will now head for the Thousand Guineas, where she will aim to become the second G1 winner for Domesday following Pressday’s outstanding victory in the T J Smith last season.
Bred by Woodlands Stud, Divorces is out of the Octagonal mare Family Breakup, herself a daughter of G2 winner Royal Accord.
Domesday has sired no fewer than five Black type performers to date, including the aforementioned G1 winner Pressday, plus Giresun who took second in the G3 Spring Stakes earlier this week.
Also on Saturday at Caulfield, Shamardal's four-year-old daughter No Evidence Needed added further Black type to her already impressive CV when second in the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, while at Rosehill Lonhro filly Parables took the same place in the G2 Tea Rose Stakes.
