Cylinder superior in Todman Stakes

Golden Slipper looms large for son of Exceed And Excel after colt gives sire yet another feature juvenile winner

Brave Exceed And Excel colt Cylinder stamped his Golden Slipper claims when he won the G2 Todman Stakes (1,200m) at Royal Randwick in Sydney on Saturday, 4 March.

Cylinder ran down race favourite Red Resistance to win by three-quarters of a length, with Militarize nearly three lengths away in third place.

The James Cummings-trained youngster returned from a spell to win the G2 Silver Slipper (1,100m) at Rosehill Gardens on 18 February.

Facing his stiffest test against the unbeaten Red Resistance, Cylinder proved superior and took his record to two wins and two placings from four starts for prize money winnings of $370,750 plus trophies.

Cylinder is out of the Australian broodmare Circular, the dam of smart Astern filly Parisal.

The mare has a filly foal at foot by Bivouac and visited Brazen Beau last season.

A dual G1 winner during a racetrack career that yielded six wins in Stakes company, Exceed And Excel has sired 1731 winners worldwide of 5801 races worth just over A$252 million.

He has 209 Stakes race winners of 380 Black-Type races, while his juveniles have recorded 787 wins, 120 of those at Stakes level.

Exceed And Excel had 12 lots sell at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January for an average of $590,000.

The stallion has four lots in the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and 21 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
