Betrayal one to watch

Two-year-old Exceed And Excel blueblood scores by two at Canterbury

Having his second race start after finishing in the runner-up stall behind the smart Lonhro colt Sessions on debut, Exceed And Excel colt Betrayal did not let favourite backers down, recording an encouraging two length victory over first-starters Eight Straight (Lonhro) and Hurricane Henny (Henny Hughes).

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and racing in the purple and white silks of Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbred Syndications, Betrayal was bred by Bylong Park and is the second foal of the G1 Champagne Stakes-winning More Than Ready mare Carry On Cutie.

The sire of 11 individual two-year-old winners to date this season in Australia including Stakes horses Applegate, Armed For Action, Narcissus, Planet Voyage and Sabie, Exceed And Excel sits in equal second place for the number of juvenile winners produced this season in Australia.

Standing the forthcoming breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $66,000 (inc GST), Exceed And Excel is the sire of 47 international Stakes winners highlighted by G1 winners Helmet, Excelebration, Margot Did and Reward For Effort.
