Pedigree notes

  • Apart from his quality pedigree and stellar racing career, Victor Ludorum has another key feature in his makeup that gives him a better-than-average chance of becoming a successful sire. He is inbred to his own female family via the mare Helen Street within five generations under conditions displaying The Rasmussen Factor (RF).
  • This has been a key ingredient in the makeup of many of the world’s leading sires, it is worth noting that Star Kingdom, Sir Tristram and Danehill had only one thing in common, they all had the RF.
  • To emphasise the significance of this feature one has to consider that around 10% of commercial thoroughbreds have the RF, it varies from 6% to 15% in different jurisdictions at different periods of time, yet of the 205 stallions featured in Great Thoroughbred Sires Of The World, 25% had the RF. These were the best of the best since 1900 right around the world with roughly double the average percentage of the RF.
  • Victor Ludorum is already the best horse resulting from inbreeding to his own third dam, the influential mare Helen Street who is also the second dam of his sire Shamardal. Victor Ludorum is inbred to both his sire’s family and his own female family, a pattern known as the Formula One Pattern of the Rasmussen Factor and one that has produced notable thoroughbreds such as Coup De Folie, Numbered Account, Wellingtonia, Thatching and two particularly important sires, Blue Larkspur and Quiet American.
  • Although Helen Street was foaled barely 40 years she already has 20 Stakes winners tracing to her in direct female line including SIX individual G1 winners and FOUR G1 placegetters. They include two of the world’s leading sires of recent times, Street Cry and Shamardal.
