Fireball Miss delivers Queensland Oaks glory for Bivouac

Three-year-old filly becomes sire's second Australian G1 winner

Fireball Miss provided Bivouac with a solid result on Saturday, June 6, storming to victory in the G1 Queensland Oaks (2,200m) at Eagle Farm.

The three-year-old filly backed up her dominant G2 The Roses success two weeks earlier with another commanding performance, drawing clear to defeat last-start G1 winner Panova by 1.3 lengths.

Trained by Ciaron Maher and ridden by Declan Bates, Fireball Miss has now won three of her seven starts and becomes the second Australian G1 winner for Bivouac.

“This filly has thrived up here in Brisbane,” Maher said.

“You see it year in, year out if you target this time of year with a filly like that. We had the option to go to Adelaide but we thought no, we'd put her on ice and target up here, and you can see how well she looks. She has absolutely thrived.”

Maher believes there is further improvement to come from the filly.

“I think she's a filly for the future. When she's mature she is going to be a really nice mare.”

Fireball Miss joins an elite group of fillies to complete the G2 The Roses and G1 Queensland Oaks double, a list that includes Ethereal, Scarlett Lady and Youngstar.

Purchased for $140,000 from the 2024 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Fireball Miss races for Bennett Racing and is out of the Stakes-performed Pierro mare Femme Fireball.

Her victory follows the success of dual G1 winner Beiwacht and further strengthens the early record of Bivouac, whose Australasian Stakes winners have now captured nine Stakes races and earned almost $7 million.

A Champion Sprinter and Longines World's Best Sprinter, Bivouac stands at Darley's Kelvinside farm in the Hunter Valley at a fee of $33,000 inc GST
