Fireball Miss delivers another Stakes success for Bivouac

Progressive filly lands first Group victory at Doomben

Bivouac moved closer to second-season sire honours on Saturday, May 23, when three-year-old filly Fireball Miss claimed the G3 The Roses (2,000m) at Doomben on the opening day of the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

Ridden by Declan Bates, Fireball Miss produced a strong finishing burst along the rail to score decisively in the Group contest, defeating her rivals by 1.37 lengths.

Trained by Ciaron Maher, the filly has now won two of her six starts, following a last-start third in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet earlier this month.

“This filly has thrived since coming up here to Queensland,” Maher said. “She stays at Tony Gollan’s yard and she’s in really good order. She has improved every run, and it was a beautiful ride.”

Bates, who also partnered the filly in the Bracelet, said the inside run opened at the right time.

“I was reluctant to go too early because I thought if it doesn’t work, hopefully I’ll be forgiven,” he said. “But it did work out.”

Fireball Miss becomes the fifth Australasian Stakes winner for Bivouac from his second crop. She joins dual G1 winner Beiwacht, last-start winner of the G1 All Aged Stakes, alongside G2 winner Intention, G3 winner Big Sky and Listed winner Luana Miss.

Bred by Aralet Pty Ltd, Qld, Fireball Miss was purchased for $140,000 from the 2024 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Bivouac stands at Darley’s Kelvinside base in the Hunter Valley at a fee of $33,000 inc GST. Saturday’s result leaves him within striking distance of the leading Australian second-season sires, with less than $150,000 separating the top three stallions on the premiership table.
