First G1 winner for World Champion Sprinter Bivouac

Beiwacht stops the clock with an all-the-way Golden Rose triumph - just like his sire

Godolphin colt Beiwacht emulated former World Champion Sprinter Bivouac and gave the Darley stallion the first G1 winner of his stud career with a brilliant display of sustained speed in Saturday’s G1 Golden Rose at Rosehill Gardens.

Beiwacht jumped straight to the lead for jockey Adam Hyeronimus and then set amazing sectionals, just as Bivouac had done six years earlier, before beating Wodeton by just over four lengths, with Tempted a short-head away in third place.

The Chris Waller-trained Beiwacht clocked a track-record 1 minute 20.79 seconds for the 1,400m, taking his career to two wins and three placings for prize-money and bonus earnings of $910,275.

In joining now stallions Zoustar (2013), The Autumn Sun (’18), Ole Kirk (’20) and Broadsiding last year, Beiwacht sealed his stud future and may now target the $20 The Everest over 1,200m at Randwick, the G1 Caulfield Guineas or the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington.

Godolphin Australia’s Racing and Bloodstock Manager Jason Walsh was impressed with the victory, but said any decision would be well considered.

“Beiwacht showed plenty of precocity to win the (G2) Silver Slipper (February), he’s just been a bit of a work in progress,” Walsh said.

“It’s a huge result for a first-crop sire like Bivouac.

“He was a triple G1 winner by a champion sire (Exceed And Excel) of two-year-olds.

“Beiwacht is now a serious stallion prospect in his own right and what a wonderful way to start Bivouac’s stallion career.”

Bivouac has already sired 12 winners of 15 races, including three Stakes winners (including Intention and Luana Miss) of four Black-Type events.

The stallion stands at Darley’s Kelvinside property in the NSW Hunter Valley for a service fee of $55,000, GST inclusive.
