Vatuvei brings up 17th for Reset

Reset gelding wins the Listed St Leger at Flemington

A last start third at Stakes level, the Peter Moody-trained Reset gelding Vatuvei was sent out as one of the favourite runners in the Listed St Leger over 2800m at Flemington on April 25.

Settling third last in the large field from a wide gate, Vatuvei was still at the rear of the filed with 800m to go. As the field rounded the home turn, so well was Vatuvei travelling, he found himself in front – dashing away to record a one-and-a-quarter length victory over Practiced, with another 11lengths to the third horse.

Described by his trainer as a “work in progress”, Vatuvei is out of the Listed winner Boisterous Lady, already the dam of G1 winner Rena’s Lady and the G3 winner Raise. Bred by Caradale Pty Ltd, Cobra Bloodstock Australia Pty Ltd and Austramore Pty Ltd, Vatuvei has now recorded two wins from nine starts.

One of two winners on the day for the unbeaten, dual G1-winning Reset, Vatuvei becomes the 17th Stakes winner for his sire, joining the likes of G1 winners Pinker Pinker and Rebel Raider as well as fellow Stakes winners Cassini, Knight’s Tour, Set For Fame and Avienus.

As one of the leading Stakes-producing Victorian-based stallion, Reset will stand the forthcoming breeding season at Darley’s Northwood Park for $16,500 (inc. GST).
