Untouchable sires his second winner

Exceed And Excel sires his eighth individual winner and first winner in South Africa

First-season sire Untouchable (pictured) sired his second individual winner on 15 March, when his daughter Sharufa took the 1300m Maiden Handicap at the Gold Coast.

Placed second on her two previous starts over 1000 and 1200m, Bryan Guy’s charge clearly relished the step up in trip and justified her favouritism in the race, winning by a short head from County Raider.

Sharufa is out of the Luskin Star mare Polgar, herself a half-sister to Black type winner Waajib Star and from the family of the talented racemare Storm Queen. She was purchased by her trainer at last year’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale for $70,000.

Untouchable, also sire of convincing winner The Pariah, has 17 yearlings catalogued at this year’s Magic Millions Sale which starts on Easter Monday.

Also on Saturday, first-season sire sensation Exceed And Excel sired his first winner in South Africa when Her Excellency obliged first time out at Turffontain.

Sent off as favourite for the 1000m contest, the two-year-old filly (who was bought at last year's Magic Millions Sale for $380,000) won by a convincing length-and-three-quarters to become her sire's eighth individual winner.

Exceed And Excel has been enjoying an outstanding season with his first crop of two-year-olds, siring four individual Black type winners and a further two horses that have been placed at Stakes level. Among them is the Listed-winning G3-placed filly Sugar Babe, who is currently among the market favourites for the $1.5 million two-year-old Magic Millions race. Her sire has 36 yearlings entered in the sale.
