Unbeaten colt breaks class record

Two-year-old Ad Valorem colt Uate records an impressive victory on the Kensington track

Having his second career start on March 2, off the back a very good length-and-a-half victory at Newcastle a month ago, the Kris Lees-trained Ad Valorem colt Uate kept his unbeaten record intact recording an impressive win on the Kensington track.

After jumping well, the colt settled just off the pace for jockey Nash Rawiller before producing a finishing burst that saw the youngster duck back along the rail to defeat Commands colt Eluther and in the process break the course record which was previously held by the multiple G1 winner Samantha Miss.

After the race, trainer Kris Less indicated that, “I’d love to take him to Brisbane for the Sires and the T.J Smith but we’ll just see how he pulls up from today before I make any definite plans.” Both of those races were won last season by Domesday's G1-winning son Pressday.

Bred by Mr PR Clarke of Victoria, Uate is out of the winning Over mare Long Walk, who has had two to the races, both winners. From the family of G3 winner Cannibal King, the mares third foal is by Darley’s G2-winning first-season sire Shaft, whose first-crop of yearlings are selling at the moment, making up to $170,000 in the ring.

A G1-winning son of Danzig, Ad Valorem has recorded two winners from six starters in the southern hemisphere, while in the northern hemisphere his performers included Stakes winner Samaden, Stakes performer Rigolletto and the three-time winners Alabama Song and Revine.
