Tentyris burns Lightning field

Three-year-old Street Boss colt secures second G1 with breathtaking finish in Flemington sprint

Tentyris burst back into the G1 spotlight with a devastating victory in the Lightning Stakes over 1,000m down the straight course at Flemington on Saturday, 14 February.

Scratched at the barrier before the G1 Champions Sprint at the same track last November, the handsome chestnut son of Darley stallion Street Boss settled at the tail of the eight-horse field before unleashing his powerful sprint inside the final 150m.

So fast did Tentyris finish for jockey Damian Lane that he swept past My Gladiola to score by three-quarters of a length, with Benedetta the same distance away in third place.

Winner of the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes 1,200m for three-year-olds two starts ago, Tentyris ran the distance in a fast 56.91 seconds to record his fifth win with two placings from just eight starts under co-trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman.

Sam Freedman indicated the G1 Newmarket Handicap 1,200m at Flemington on 7 March could be the next target for Tentyris if weights proved favourable.

Tentyris’ victory continued terrific success for the stock of Street Boss, who is currently inside the top 10 on the stallions’ progeny prize-money list in Australia.

The Lightning win came just a week after champion three-year-old filly Tempted resumed to win the G3 Eskimo Prince Stakes over 1,200m at Randwick, and juvenile Closer To Free debuted with a stylish win in the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude 1,100m for colts and geldings at Caulfield.

Street Boss’ progeny have won 3,230 races worldwide, including 179 Stakes races for an overall prize-money tally of almost A$180 million.

A Street Boss yearling sold for NZ$475,000 at the Karaka sale in New Zealand last month, a couple of weeks after one of his colts fetched A$340,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The stallion has seven lots in the catalogue for the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne from 1-3 March.
