Sugar Babe wins again

Exceed And Excel's Stakes-winning daughter lands second win from just three starts

Exceed And Excel's first-crop daughter Sugar Babe (pictured) continued the superb start she has made to her racing career with victory in the Gillette Fusion Phantom Handicap over 1200m at Rosehill on Saturday.

A first-up winner in the Listed Debutants Stakes at Caulfield in October, Sugar Babe then ran second to her paternal half-sister Believe'N'Succeed in the Fillies' Blue Diamond Prelude last month. Bred by Strawberry Hill Stud, she is out of the Zeditave mare On Type.

There was success at Morphettville for another Darley freshman when Dubai Destination sired his second southern hemisphere winner in How Discreet. The two-year-old filly out of Oh So Discreet (Bluebird) was making only her second start.

The Australian Guineas (G1) at Flemington saw a thrilling finish between Light Fantastic, Marching, Sound Journey and the Fantastic Light colt Playwright , with the latter claiming third spot in a four-way photo. The three-year-old is already a G3 winner this prep.

Carnero (Carnegie), who won the valuable Inglis Premier 2yo Classic at Caulfield last Saturday, posted a sterling effort in the G2 Jayco Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m), claiming second by a short half-head. Carnegie's G1-winning daughter Tuesday Joy returned to action at Rosehill in the G2 Winning Edge Presentation Stakes and ran a superb race, finishing with a sustained late run to finish second to four-time G1 winner Racing To Win.
