Street Surrender repelled the late challenge of Nickname in the stretch and drew off to win the Southern Truce Stakes at Santa Anita June 25.
Breaking sharply under jockey Evin Roman, the four-year-old filly by Street Boss went to the lead soon after the break. Street Surrender continued to hold a slight lead over Nickname as the field raced onto the backstretch.
Nickname drew alongside to challenge Street Surrender in the stretch. The pair battled for several strides before Street Surrender finally put away her rival, eventually crossing the wire to post a one-and-three-quarter-length victory.
Bred in Kentucky by Sally Thomas and New Dawn Stable, Street Surrender is out of the Crafty Prospector mare Sweet Sierra, a full sister to G3 Stakes winner, Liberty Gold. Sweet Sierra is also a half-sister to Latour, winner of the G2 Davona Dale Stakes. In addition to Street Surrender, Sweet Sierra has also produced multiple Stakes winner, Golden Country.
Street Boss is the sire of 2017 Graded Stakes winners Rapper Dragon, winner of the Hong Kong Derby (a local G1) and the G2 Chairman's Trophy; and Hence, winner of the G3 Sunland Derby. He is also the sire of 2016 G1 winners Cathryn Sophia (G1 Kentucky Oaks) and Decked Out (G1 American Oaks).
