Street Cry records Group win double at Flemington

Melbourne Cup hero Shocking wins the G1 Dubai Australian Cup while Whobegotyou lands the G2 Blamey Stakes

Shocking, a five-year-old son of Dubai World Cup winner Street Cry, recorded his second career G1 victory, winning the Dubai Australian Cup at Flemington in emphatic fashion.

Settling towards the tail of the field, the Mark Kavanagh-trained colt made his run down the outside of the field to defeat fellow G1 winners Linton and Playing God by two lengths. A winner of the G1 Melbourne Cup during his four-year-old season, the $4.9 million earner has an affinity with the Flemington course, winning five of his eight starts at the track.

Bred by Mrs F Fraser, Shocking is out of the Danehill mare Maria di Castiglia, whose current yearling by Street Cry's history-making son Street Sense will be offered at the upcoming Inglis Easter yearling sale as lot 341.

Three races earlier on the card, five-year-old gelding Whobegotyou took his earnings past the $3 million mark with victory in the G2 Blamey Stakes.

Returning from a spell last start with a second behind More Joyous at G1 level, the Mark Kavanagh-trained runner (who was later to complete a Group race, Street Cry double with Shocking) took up his customary role and settled towards the rear of the field.

As the field turned for home jockey Damien Oliver allowed Whobegotyou to amble up out wide to commence his run, taking the G2 event by a long neck. The Laurence Eales-owned galloper is one of the most consistent performers of his generation, being out of the money on just five occasions from 27 starts.

Bred by Lockyer Thoroughbreds, Whobegotyou is out of the Stakes placed Carnegie mare Temple Of Peace and is from the family of International Stakes winners Rajsaman, Rosawa, Rosanara, Cuddles, Katz Me If You Can, Cause To Believe, Buffythecenterfold and Tap To The Music.

Sire of the sensational 2010 US horse of The Year in Zenyatta (recently announced as being in foal to Darley's very own Bernardini), Street Sense and Street Boss, Street Cry is a world-class sire with 12 individual G1 winners to his credit amongst 44 Stakes winners globally.
Street Cry covered the likes of G1 winners Miss Finland, Elegant Fashion, Mnemosyne, Black Mamba, Love To Dance, Piavonic, Private Steer and Rewaaya during his last southern hemisphere breeding season and Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy has already been booked in for the upcoming breeding season.
