Sound And Silence sweeps to victory in the G3 Prix Eclipse

Talented juvenile son of Exceed And Excel records his third Stakes win

Exceed And Excel is renowned for his tough, speedy juveniles and in 2017 his son Sound And Silence has helped to maintain his sire’s reputation in fine style. On Wednesday, 20 September, the smart colt added a fourth career win and a third victory at Black Type level to his record when landing the G3 Prix Eclipse at Maisons-Laffitte.

Sound And Silence was always travelling well under James Doyle and once asked to quicken inside the final two, soon put the race to bed as he eased clear of his rivals and won the 1200m contest with ease.

Trained by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin, Sound And Silence broke his maiden at the very first time of asking, winning over five furlongs at Newmarket’s Craven meeting. He has since raced solely in Stakes company, winning the Windsor Castle Stakes on the opening day of Royal Ascot in thrilling fashion. Last month he took the Listed Roses Stakes at York before finishing a close second in the G3 Prix d’Arenberg last time out.

Sound And Silence is one of three winners out of the unraced Elusive Quality mare Veil Of Silence, herself a daughter of the great racemare and multiple G1 winner Gossamer.

Sound And Silence is one of 15 Black Type winners so far this year for Exceed And Excel. He has another talented juvenile in recent G2 Lowther Stakes heroine Threading, now likely to head for the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes.

Exceed And Excel stands at Kelvinside at a fee of $110,000 inc GST.
