Shamardal shines at Easter Sale

Yearlings by Shamardal average $329,167; another strong day for Exceed And Excel

There was another brisk day of trading on day three of the Inglis Easter Sales with several Darley stallions contributing to a good overall session.

Shamardal has been one of the success stories so far returning an impressive average of A$329,167 (£157,000).

His highest price of the sale went through on day three when Darley paid A$630,000 (£300,000) for Lot 426, a filly out of G1-winning two-year-old True Jewels. Consigned by Twin Palms Stud, True Jewels is the dam of Listed winner Villain. His other lot to sell on Tuesday was a colt (pictured) out of another G1 winner, St Clemens Belle. Brought to the ring by Mill Park, he was bought for A$325,000 (£155,000).

Exceed And Excel's success continued on day three when several of his yearlings provided breeders with handsome returns. His highlight of the session was A$500,000 (£238,000) given for lot 348, a colt out of Newmarket Handicap winner Ruffles whose previous six foals have all been winners.

So far during the sale Exceed And Excel has had 20 lots sell at an average of A$312,500 (£149,000), more than six times his covering fee.
