Second Stakes win for Sound And Silence

Two-year-old son of Exceed And Excel takes the Roses Stakes at York

Exceed And Excel colt Sound And Silence, winner of the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot, returned to winning ways in fine style on 26 August when sweeping home to land the five-furlong Listed Roses Stakes at York.

Settled towards the rear under James Doyle, Charlie Appleby’s charge travelled well throughout and came with a superb run inside the final furlong to win by half a length.

Sound And Silence won on his racecourse debut at Newmarket in April and has raced solely in Stakes company ever since. He holds an entry in the G2 Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury next month.

Sound And Silence is one of three winners out of Veil Of Silence (Elusive Quality), herself a daughter of the great racemare Gossamer, making her a half-sister to G1 Racing Post Trophy winner Ibn Khaldun.

Exceed And Excel, the world’s leading sire of juvenile winners and Stakes winners, has 31 Black type performers to his name in 2017. They include G1-placed duo Mr Stunning and Morawij, plus this week’s G2 Lowther Stakes winner Threading.
