Second Stakes win for son of Exceed And Excel

First Among Equals returns with sensational Listed victory at Belmont

Exceed And Excel rising five-year-old First Among Equals has returned from a spell in devastating fashion with an impressive victory in the Listed HG Bolton Sprint (1200m) at Belmont on July 30.

A winner of the Listed Pinjarra Classic (1300m) last campaign, the Simon Miller-trained First Among Equals was having his first run since March and takes his record to nine wins from 18 starts.

Ridden by Paul Harvey, First Among Equals was caught wide but was always travelling comfortably pulling clear of Rock Magic and Rebel King over the final 50 metres.

Bred by P Sweeney, First Among Equals is out of stakes-winning Volksraad mare Pride Of The Class, who has produced six foals to race for four winners. Pride Of The Class is also a half-sister to stakes winners Fulmonti and Majestical.

Exceed And Excel has now sired 25 individual Black type performers worldwide in 2016, including G1 winner Flamberge and fellow Group winners CalliopeYattarna and Morawij.

Exceed And Excel will stand the coming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $110,000 inc. GST, while his G1-winning son Helmet will stand at Northwood Park at $16,500 inc. GST.
