Second G1 win for Soqrat

First-crop son of Epaulette wins the Cape Guineas in South Africa

Soqrat, Epaulette’s star first-crop son, landed his second career G1 when easily taking the Cape Guineas in South Africa. After taking the G1 Premier’s Champion Stakes as a juvenile, he was making his second start of the season when triumphing by just over a length in the mile contest at Kenilworth.

Owned and bred by Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Stud, he is out of the Hussonet mare Elzeeza. Hailing from the extended family of top Hong Kong sprinter Lucky Bubbles, Elzeeza has also sired the juvenile winner Akhlaaq (Hard Spun).

Epaulette has sired three Group winners from his first Australian-bred crop. Soqrat heads the list with it completed by the G3-winning fillies Meryl and Khulaasa.
