Oxley Road adds another Stakes win to Exceed And Excel’s grand total

Well-connected colt makes it two-from-two in G3 Zeditave Stakes

A dashing, front-running performance has carried the Exceed And Excel colt Oxley Road to his second win from as many starts and his first at Stakes level in Saturday’s G3 Zeditave Stakes at Caulfield.

A brother to the G1 winner and sire Exceedance, the colt became his sire’s 182nd Stakes winner with a performance that suggested more important wins are ahead.

Oxley Road jumped to the front and took control of the race in the first 50m, cruising through the first half of the 1,200m contest under a hold and then dropping his opposition soon after straightening.

Like Exceedance, Oxley Road is out of the Thorn Park mare Bonnie Mac, a Listed winner who is one of four Stakes winners from the handy performer Gold Class.

The colt was a $125,000 purchase at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale by Stephen Gray and had two barrier trials in New Zealand before joining the stable of Peter Moody in Victoria.

After being briefly challenged in the closing stages by the runner-up It’sourtime, Oxley Road by 1-3/4 lengths with Valaquenta (Street Boss) the same distance away in third place.
