One To Watch - Commanding Jewel

A three-quarter sister by Commands to an unbeaten multiple G1 winner makes winning debut

After a 12 length barrier trial victory back in late July, Commands filly Commanding Jewel headed for her racetrack debut as a short-priced favourite. Jumping away smartly from the gates, the three-year-old filly sat handy before being reved up round the home turn, where she skipped clear to record a length-and-a-half victory.

A three-quarter sister to the unbeaten, multiple G1 winner Atlantic Jewel, Commanding Jewel was purchased from the 2011 Magic Millions yearling sale for $205,000 from the draft of Vinery Stud as agent.

Out of the talented Zabeel mare Regard, Commanding Jewel holds Spring entries for the G1 Thousand Guineas as well as the G1 Cox Plate, a race where she could meet her three-quarter sister.

The leading sire of winners for the last three seasons, Commands is the sire of 48 Stakes winners including G1 winners Skilled, Paratroopers, Erewhon, Purple and Undue, while potentially his next G1 winner could come in the shape of outstanding sprinter Rain Affair who resumes in the coming weeks after an impressive barrier trial performance on August 13.

Standing the forthcoming season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $55,000 (inc. GST), further information on Commands as well as the rest of the Darley roster can be viewed in Darley’s 2012 online stallion brochure, or by clicking here to download the new App for your Iphone/Ipad.
