New Year's Day celebrates in G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile

Street Cry sires his second Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner

Street Cry sired his second G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner November 2 as New Year's Day posted a dramatic win at Santa Anita for owners Gary and Mary West.

The colt follows in the footsteps of Street Sense, who won the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile before going on to win the 2007 G1 Kentucky Derby, becoming the only horse to complete this feat. New Year's Day is certain to be pointed toward the first Saturday in May himself.

New Year's Day settled along the inside off the pace in the 1700m race. In the stretch he slipped along the inside and kicked on in the final strides for an exciting victory. It was the second win in a row for the colt, who broke his maiden last time out at Del Mar for trainer Bob Baffert.

Bred by Clearsky Farms, New Year's Day is the first foal for multiple Graded Stakes-winning mare Justwhistledixie, by Dixie Union. Justwhistledixie is a half-sister to Graded Stakes winner Chace City.

With the victory, New Year's Day becomes the 15th G1 winner for Street Cry and joins such esteemed company as Horse Of The Year Zenyatta, multiple G1 winner and Darley stallion Street Boss, Melbourne Cup winner Shocking as well as G1 Caulfield Guineas winner Whobegotyou. Just last month Street Cry's three-year-old son Long John became his sire's second Caulfield Guineas winner, making Street Cry the first stallion in nearly three decades to sire multiple Caulfield Guineas winners.

In what was a spectacular day for Street Cry, earlier today he was the sire of another impressive two-year-old winner as his daughter Majeyda won Newmarket's Listed Montrose Fillies' Stakes in style.

Street Cry is standing the current breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $110,000 inc. GST, while Street Boss stands at Northwood Park at a fee of $11,000 inc. GST.
