New Stakes winner for Exceed And Excel in Gosford Guineas

Three-year-old Bacchanalia gives Chad Schofield first Black-Type winner back on home soil

Three-year-old Bacchanalia confirmed James Cummings' thoughts in sending the son of Exceed And Excel onto the Listed Gosford Guineas following two impressive lead-up victories at Canterbury and Randwick at the back-end of November and mid-December.

Jumping evenly from barrier six as the race favorite, Chad Schofield rallied for a position one-off, one-back behind King Of Sparta. Mid-race the pair were able to ease off the pack who strung out, sitting in fourth position biding their time the duo made their move in the 1200-metre affair on the home turn and Schofield asked of his mount who duly responded with an easing win through the line.

The Black-Type victory was an extra special one for Australian jockey Chad Schofield marking his first since recently returning from Hong Kong with his wife, Hannah.

Out of the Stakes-producing Medaglia d'Oro mare, Thalia, Bacchanalia is bred on the cross responsible for 11 winners from just 17 runners.

Exceed And Excel sits just two winners off surpassing his sire Danehill's individual winners' record of 1,623 individual winners, he will be the only Danehill-line sire to achieve this when the feat happens.
