New juvenile Stakes winner for Exceed And Excel

Morawij runs out the easy winner of the Dragon Stakes at Sandown

Exceed And Excel’s two-year-old son Morawij first caught the eye back in May when breaking his maiden at the very first time of asking. On 6 July he followed up a creditable fourth in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot and he stepped up on that form with a facile win in the Listed Dragon Stakes at Sandown on July 6.

Never far from the pace, the Roger Varian-trained colt quickened up impressively once asked by jockey Neil Callan and ran on well to win the 1000m contest by two and a quarter lengths.

Bred by Dunchurch Lodge Stud, Morawij is out of the G3-placed Piccolo mare Silver Moonshine.

Exceed And Excel, renowned for his ability to sire speedy, precocious youngsters, is now sire of no fewer than 32 juvenile Stakes winners, including multiple G1 winner Helmet who will stand at Darley in Australia this season.

Exceed And Excel stands at Kelvinside at a fee of $66,000 including GST, while Helmet will stand at Northwood Park at a fee of $33,000 including GST.
